the sept round up: part 1 september 2005

Here are all my pics from October that didn't merit their own entry!

Saturday, October 1st

I spent Saturday in Neil Perry's studio with Fiasco listening in on them recording songs for what ended up becoming the Faux Real EP. Here's Grant (channeling David Brent) with Neil.

Amanda only records in shiny clothes.

Genius is shy.

See?

Later that night I went to Misshapes at Luke and Leroy and ran into SmellsGood BonJersey and Brother Lawrence!

Gurj and Tinny where there.

We practiced our impression of Hippy Elves.

Monday, October 3rd

On Monday night I went out drinking with new-roomie Niki and a few of her friends. Here's Niki with Rob Sheffield.

Here's Marc Spitz trying to hide from my camera...

...eventually he relented. Resist all you want, but if I'm in the vicinity, sooner or later, you're going to have your picture taken. Hahah.

Me and Rob.

Tuesday, October 4th

On Tuesday I met up with my brother, who was temporarily living in NYC for a few months while on a consulting gig, and our parents to go see The Producers
on Broadway. It was AWESOME! (Thanks, Mom & Dad!).

On the way back to my apartment, I ran into Lauren Flax on Avenue B and ended up going to some bar with her right around the corner from my place and watched her shotgun beers.

Several beers.

I even ran into Crazy Amber there! I hadn't seen her in years!

Thursday, October 6th

As long time readers of this site know, I have a ton of bizarro-lookalikes: but the one that cracks my friends up the most, is the fact that I look quite a bit like Ellen DeGeneres. I was watching her comedy special and paused and thought I'd captured quite a likeness so I took this pic to immortalize it. Hahah.

Later that night I went to Irving Plaza to see Mandy and Stellastarr* play.

Saturday, October 8th

I spent most of Saturday geeking out and unpacking my old computer from college (look at the size of my clunky old monitor!).

I hooked it up to my newer computer and spent a whole bunch time browsing my old files and copying over anything of interest before I f-disked it and put it up on craigslist.

Walking back from the grocery store, I saw this poster hanging up in the Two Boots theatre for a movie that was a huge cult-classic all through NJ back when I was in high school! Night of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Terror of the Attack...and on and on. YOu get the idea. We used to pretty much watch a VHS copy of this movie that I had stolen from a local video STORE every weekend back in the early 90s! I recently managed to track down a DVD version and bought it! It's almost as funny as I remember it being.

Then on my way out later that night, I stopped by Don Hill's to see Candy's new band (that I think was called something like "Candy and the Unlucky 13"). I got there early and caught the last two songs by a band with the prettiest lead singer I'd ever seen!

She was even prettier than Bret Michaels! (And that's sayin' something!) I wish I had pictures that did her justice. Anybody have any idea what band this was? I think they were local to NYC.

Then it was time for Candy's band. They rocked it.

Candy's bass player had a 5-string bass that had LIGHT-UP fret markers! ("Light-up" as in, yes, they were actually powered by a battery pack or something). It was the most awesomely cheesetastic thing I think I've ever seen at a rock club in NYC (and that's saying a lot!).

Carly (Candy's sister!) and Fatty.

Cori and Caitlin.

After the show, I went down the street to say hi to Sarah and Karen who were DJing at Movida. I quietly snuck up the stairs that lead up to the elevated DJ booth as I was planning on scaring them - but Karen totally turned around a caught me getting ready to jump out and yell.

Hahahah.

Even better.

The view of Movida from the weird eye-hole booth.

Sad about boobies?

Ready to make a smashed-boobs heart?

Ta-da!

Christine and Greg.

After Movida I went across the street to Luke and Leroy to say hi to these two. Tinny, where did your teeth go?

Hahahahah.

Sunday, October 9th

Leigh was puppy-sitting for Ellen so I went over to her place on Sunday and we pet Piper so much that we sent her into a a stupor. Look at her face!

Awwww, are you sleepy, Pipes?

Well how about we tuck you under the covers so that you can...

...take a nap. Hahahaha.

Wednesday, October 12th

Somewhere back during the middle of October of 2005, Meredith and I, who had been fighting a lot, decided to break up (don't worry, we've long since gotten back together). Right when we broke up, I started going out REALLY late and partying pretty hard to take my mind off things. I'm guessing this photo might have been taken right around when that happened because I can't think of any logical reason why I'd have taken (this totally emo) photo that's time stamped at 4:36am on a Wednesday.

Is it really possible I was out this late and these are the only two pics I took that night? Hahaha.

Friday, October 14th

On Friday night, Sarah and Leigh came over (with Piper the puppy!) in the pouring rain to bring my a belated birthday gift!

Which turned out to be this totally bad-ass photo printer! Hands down one of the best birthday gifts I've ever gotten!

Tiny Piper!

Sarah came into my room to help me set up the new printer and saw that I was working on this web site and writing captions about the night that I went to Misshapes after Bev's wedding and we all got REALLY drunk and I totally caught Leigh on cam reaching down Sarah's dress to cop a feel!

Piper, are you winking at me?

Saturday, October 15th

Saturday afternoon I had brunch with this guy! David F, where are you these days?

Sunday, October 16th

Sunday night Fatty hosted HBO TV night at his house and we totally gorged ourselves with Indian food.

Monday, October 17th

On Monday night I went and saw some band play at the basement of the Tribecca Grand.

Merlin and Karen were there!

Tuesday, October 18th

Uh-oh! Who's that on the apartment cam?

It's Leigh and Piper! I think Ellen was away for a few weeks and Leigh was puppy-sitting this whole time which is why I have so many more pics of Piper with Leigh than I have of her with Ellen!

Hahaha. Look who took themselves a hip-hop dance class!

Piper decided to hang out, watch like ten episodes of Lost on DVD with Leigh and I...

...eat some Cheetos.

Hahahah. (All pets like Cheetos!).

Then she fell asleep.

And I used her as a beer coaster.

Hahaha. I bet you'd call the ASPCA if you weren't laughing so hard right now.

Wednesday, October 19th

On Wednesday night I got treated to waffles and ice cream by a college journalism student named Edwina who wanted to interview me about this site! Who says blogging doesn't get you things?

Friday, October 21st

Friday night I went to the Misshapes apartment to celebrate Greg K's birthday! Here's the birthday boy and Martin.

They bought a helium tank and blew up a ton of silver balloons. And hey, if you've got a ton of silver balloons, you can't afford to have your apartment not match. So they did the only sensible fashionable thing...

...and painted the ENTIRE APARTMENT SILVER! (No, for seriously).

Too bad he won't be old enough to legally drink this for another five years.

Josh was there! I put on his glasses and realized just how much I look like...

...I could be Jackson's funny-looking brother.

Martin-ahhhh.

I went downstairs (to Geordon's lair) with Ben Cho and Greg and we discovered...

...a body.

Curious, we decided to see to whom the seemingly disembodied feet belonged to.

We strolled around the corner and found...

This guy!

Ryan came down and caught us trying to rouse him.

We tried our best to wake him up, but the lil' guy was out cold. So Ryan and I decided it was time for the two of us to do what we're know best for.

I took photos of us laughing at him.

And then Ryan made art. (I'll end up getting a few laughs and a couple of high-fives. Ryan will probably sell his photo of this for lots of money. Holy crap, did I make a wrong turn somewhere. Hahaha).

After we were done snapping away, we tried again to wake the dude up. This time...

...it was a success! Hey, the kids are definitely alright!

By the time we all made it back up stairs, the party was winding down so I decided to head...

...down to Orchard Bar for Sarah and Karen's Stolen Transmission party where I ran into Michael and Mandy!

Brother Lawrence was there too! A few drinks later and somehow an arm wrestling competition broke out. (Which has happened more than I'd like to admit).

Here's Mandy showing Brother L a little move called "over the top!"

Watch out! Lamp Ghost!

Tuesday, October 25th

On Tuesday I decided to play hookey from work and head to Six Flag's Great Adventure with Dennis, Karen and Natascha! They were filming Across the Universe (the forthcoming Beatles musical) in our neighborhood and a bunch of the vehicles from the movie were parked on the corner of Dens' block! (BTW, not only is Dennis' web site the inspiration for this web site, he's also a much more responsible blogger than I am. Case in point, he posted his diary entry about this day like 2 years ago when it happened.)

Dens and Karen in the front seat in Dens' pimpin' Range Rover.

Aw yeah, Holland Tunnel! (The windows that you can see are the windows to the building I work at! When I took this photo I was all "Have a nice day at work....SUCKAS!")

Low-flying jumbo jets by Newark Airport.

Right before we got to the park, we stopped off at a BK and scored ourselves some buy-one get one free passes!

Right when we got to the park, the first thing we noticed was Kingda Ka! They had just finished building it and none of has ridden it yet. It's 45 stories tall and uses a hydraulic launcher to catapult you from 0 - 128mph in 3.5 seconds. Total insanity. (At the time we were there, it was the world record holder for the fastest and tallest roller coaster!).

Natascha, Dennis ("There's no way I'm going on that thing") Crowley, and Karen M.

Superman: The Ride!

We were all stoked, because we figured that Great Adventure would be totally empty on a Tuesday in October - but by the time we got to the park a little past 3pm, the place was totally fucking mobbed. We decided to go to one of the mellower coasters figuring the line would be the shortest and were met with this line that stretched out past the ride's entrance! Nitro: an hour and twenty minute wait!

I passed the time in line by pretending to take pictures of Dennis so that I could capture a few surreptitious pictures of this awesomely awful "Growing Up Gotti" dude that was in line behind us. Sweet line-beard, dude! But then I stopped because I think he was catching on to me and the only thing worse than getting beat up by a 17 year-old is getting beat up by a 17 year-old with that wears foundation make up! Hahah.

45 minutes later and we could finally see the ride.

Almost there!

Finally!

Here's a pic (stolen from Dens!) of us on the coaster! This was the ride where Dennis discovered he wasn't a huge fan of roller coasters! (The three of us all have our arms in the air and he's holding on for dear life).

Roller photo recreation: Karen enjoying herself.

Dens: Cowering.

Next we went to Superman the ride. We wanted to ride Kinda Ka, but we heard there was a four hour wait and with the park closing in 2 hours, we figured there was no way we'd make. Fright Fest was fun and all, but I was bumming pretty hard about only getting to ride TWO RIDES. WTF? Anyway, so the line for Superman is two and a half hours long! So after waiting in line for two hours, the ride breaks down and traps a bunch of people on it. They get it running again, but then it breaks down again and I freak out and Natascha and I convince Dens and Karen to leave the Superman line and head over to Kinga Ka. (BTW, Dennis' version of this day is way more involved and better written if you're interested).

Long story short, we get to Kingda Ka and the line is closed. I give the guard a sob story about how we'd only gotten to ride ONE RIDE (er, ok...and a $20 handshake...cha-ching!) and we were magically admitted to the line. Four hour wait, my ass! Wooooo! Here's us right up at the front of the line.

Natascha and I were stoked...

...Karen and Dens were sorta nervous! Hahaha. (Look at the expression on Karen's face!).

Here's two pics of Natascha and I: we're in both frames in the third seats.

And here's Dens and Karen. Check out the photo of Dens on the right: 0 - 128mph in 3.5 seconds = G-forces smoooooshing yer face. Hahaha.

BK again on the way home!

Awwww, yeah BK Veggie!

Wednesday, October 26th

On Wednesday night I went out to Brooklyn to be in a karaoke photo shoot Ellen Stagg was doing for some stock photo thingy.

And then I huge around for a bit so I could meet up with Lisa Carver! I know Lisa from back when she used to write a column for Nerve (and from when we used to take road trips up to NH to visit her!). Anyway, Lisa wrote an awesome memoir about her totally insane life (touring with GG Allin, getting married to Boyd Rice, one of the senior dudes in Anton LeVey's Church of Satan) called "Drugs Are Nice" and was in NYC to do a reading from it! Something I wouldn't have missed for the world! Here's me and Lis (and her book!).

Warning: There are a few pics coming up that are definitely NSFW! So if you work at a place were pictures of naked people urinating on each other isn't cool, you might want to scroll past the next few photos reeeeeal quickly.

Anyone who knows Lisa (or has read any of her work) knows that there's no way she could've done a "normal" book-reading. So while Lisa sat on stage reading a passage from her book about being up on stage with GG Allin, a bunch of people came out on stage and re-enacted the scene as Lisa read it.

If memory serves, the scene was about when someone (LIsa?) was on stage with GG and accidentally cut herself really badly with a potato peeler and bled everywhere. Ketchup was used to simulate blood and the entire stage (and everyone on it) ended up getting covered in it.

...hi-ho...GROWLER!...

Luckily, the girl who was playing Lisa, was gracious enough to stand over the guy playing GG and clean him off...

...by pissing all over him. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the dude playing GG...

...sat up and started taking it in the mouth! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Jeez, Louise!

This girl thought it was awesome!

As did Sarah and Catrinel.

Grant, however, was a little shell-shocked.

Hahaha. Here he is exactly two-seconds later after realizing that I caught him looking absolutely horrified. Haha.

Later that night Leigh came over and we played with Piper some more! Uh-oh, look who got themselves a pink hoodie!

It's bug-dog!

Hahaha.

Being cute is hard work!

Thursday, October 27th

On Thursday night I went to Geordon's birthday party at Kate's Place. Here's Big Ben Cho giving Geordon the...

...card he handmade for him! Hahaha.

The likeness was incredible!

Hahahaha.

Afterwards, a bunch of us went to Sarah and Gurj's house. Here's Leigh and Gurj with flowers in their hair.

On the walk back to Apt 3A, we ran into where they were filming one of the musical scenes to Across the Universe, that Beatles movie that I mentioned earlier in this entry!

They converted all the surrounded storefronts to look like they were from the psychedelic 60s.

Here are the actors all taking a break from the dance routine and listening to the director.

Sarah and Gurj on the movie set!

Friday, October 28th

On Friday night, Grant and I went to Orchard Bar to visit Sarah and Karen.

We met two girls (Brittany and ???) who were making out. We struck up conversation....

...Grant pantomimed the proper way to take on two huge dongs, and the next thing you know...

...Yahtzee! (Never underestimate the lure of the PornoMime!)
