After weeks of being cryptic about an upcoming "surprise guest" that was
going to DJ at Misshapes, Leigh finally came clean and told us
to that it was going to be Madonna. We were all like "Whaaaaat?
Like, the real Madonna?" Yes,
Madonna.

On my way out for the night I stopped by Number One Chinese to say
hi to Meredith. We were still broken up at this point, but we were
back on speaking terms. Here's Mer feeding the fish.

Pretty!

Later that night I met up with Josh Newman (aka "Stupid Newman!") who
was in the city visiting from Connecticut to attend our friend Geoff
Gougion's (aka - "Frenchy") bday party. Josh
and I went to college together (what
up, 1998!) and ended as post-grad
roommates after we both took jobs at the same ad agency.

Here's me and Josh surprising Gougion by showing up at
his bday party! (Which he liked a lot better than the totally
awesome birthday surprise Newman and I cooked up for Gougion back in
1999!) Hahaha.

After saying farewell to Josh, I stopped by Misshapes (before it opened)
to lend Scott one of my cameras. It turns out, I had just missed Madonna!
She'd stopped by to introduce herself to Leigh, Geordon and Greg
and check out the club. Here's Leigh showing off one of her "Look,
Madonna was here!" pics.

And here's Leigh re-creating her reaction to meeting Madonna. Hahaha.

After dropping off my camera, I walked down to Tribecca to meet up with Niki
the Roommate and her friend Hot Karla to...

...check out some house party (I think it was a guy that Karla and
Niki went to law school with?).

And, as a bonus, Hot Karla had brought along...

...her little sister Aleks (who'd just moved to NYC to start at NYU!).

The party was pretty tame. Or at least it was until Aleks and
her roommate got a couple of drinks in them and the next thing you know...

...a dance floor riot (if you can classify three people as a riot) broke out
in the middle of the living room. Hahaha.

Ummmm, yeah.

My nose, Niki and Hot Karla.

A few drinks (and a couple more wild dances later) we left the party
to head to Misshapes to see Madonna.

When we got there, it was absolute fucking pandemonium. The upstairs
was so packed, you could hardly move.

Hot Karla and Niki squeezed up against the wall.

I finally managed to squeeze my way through the crowd and ended up against the
wall near the DJ booth...

...right next to Josh, Gurj....

...and Sarah!

A few minutes later, a limo pulled up outside and the place went fucking
apeshit.

Turns out we picked a cherry spot! Madonna had to walk right in front
of us in order to get to the booth.

Madonna at the decks at Misshapes. Who woulda ever thunk it, huh? I
stuck around for the first song, but there wasn't room to dance (or
even breathe), so while the place continued to go absolutely bonkers,
I managed to squeeze my way back through the crowd and snuck downstairs.

Which was COMPLETELY deserted, save for Audrey and Gurj (who also didn't
really see the point in listening to a celebrity
play CDs).

After Madonna's set was over, the downstairs started to fill up so
we retreated further back into the secret office and proceeded to hide
out there until the bar cleared out a bit.

A little while later, we got the word that upstairs had cleared out
so we went upstairs to dance. Here's Leigh still clearly in "ohmigod
Madonna was just here" shock.

I met a girl who reads this site! (Sorry, I forgot your name! It's
been almost two years! If you still read this site, email me!).

Gurj and Mike, from the band Permanent
Me (I ended up shooting their
album cover about a year later!)

It was really late at this point and the dance floor was practically
empty. So we started up our dance party again!

Hot Karla's got all kinds of crazy spin moves.

Older Sister!

Younger Sister! Hahahaha. (Karla, I can't believe you took this pic
of me full-on palming your sisters ass!) Or...

....wearing her ass as a hat! Hahahahah.

Yay, freshman year in college!

We left Misshapes and I promised big sis I'd get lil' sis home safe.
Here's me getting signed into the NYU Freshman dorm at 5am.

Scandalous!

And here's me bidding the lovely roomies a fond farewell after making
sure they arrived safely.
